Why I Built This Practice Around the Hardest Cases

My practice has always centered on the cases that require the most from an attorney: truck accidents, catastrophic injuries, and wrongful death. I co-founded Childers & McCain with David McCain because we wanted a firm where those cases are tried by the attorneys who take them — not managed from a distance and settled short of what the client is owed.

Every case I accept, I personally handle. I have tried cases in Georgia, Virginia, Texas, and Florida. I am the first woman in Georgia board certified in truck accident law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and one of the first five women in the nation to hold that certification. That credential shapes how I approach every case I take. It is not a marketing claim. It is a standard I had to meet through trial experience, examination, and peer evaluation.

What Board Certification in Truck Accident Law Actually Requires

NBTA board certification in truck accident law is among the most demanding specialty credentials in civil litigation. To earn it, an attorney must demonstrate a substantial trial record in commercial vehicle cases, pass a comprehensive written examination, and undergo evaluation by fellow trial attorneys in the specialty. Recertification requires ongoing continuing legal education in trucking law.

I am the first woman in Georgia to hold this certification. At the time I received it, I was one of the first five women in the nation — a figure that reflects how recently the trucking bar has recognized women as the specialists they are.

In 2024, I received the NBTA President's Award for my advocacy for women in trial law and my commitment to seriously injured clients. That recognition comes from the same organization that administers the most rigorous trucking law credential in the country.

I have also qualified and testified as an expert witness in trucking litigation in trial. A court's acceptance of an attorney as a qualified expert requires a finding that the attorney's knowledge of the subject — trucking regulations, commercial vehicle operations, and carrier liability — is sufficient to assist a jury in evaluating the evidence. I have met that standard.

A Published Record in Trial Damages and Trucking Law

My published work covers two areas: the craft of trial storytelling and the specific complexities of trucking litigation.

  • "Write the Wrong: A Writing Workbook for Trial Lawyers" — a full-length trial method resource for attorneys developing their written advocacy skills.
  • "Damages House: A Storytelling Approach to Teaching Pain and Suffering" — published in Verdict Magazine.
  • "The Injured Trucker: Key Considerations in Multi-Truck Pile-Ups" — published in the AAJ Trucking Litigation Group Journal, Winter 2024.

These are practitioner resources written for the attorneys who try these cases — including the ones I teach at national boot camps.

Building the Organizations the Profession Was Missing

I founded the Middle Georgia Chapter of the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers. In its inaugural year, it became the largest chapter in the state.

In 2022, I founded the Mother Truckers Rally, an annual hands-on training conference for women truck accident attorneys. The conference is built around practical fluency: tractor-trailer operation, vehicle maintenance training, and voice and acting coaching for courtroom presence. The goal is to give women trial lawyers the technical knowledge and advocacy skills that make the difference in complex trucking cases.

Georgia-Licensed. Tried Cases in Virginia, Texas, and Florida.

I am licensed in Georgia and have been admitted pro hac vice in Virginia, Texas, and Florida, with documented results in each state. Trucking cases regularly involve out-of-state carriers, multi-state operators, and accidents that cross jurisdictional lines. The ability to pursue those cases comes from having done it.

Childers & McCain serves clients across Georgia from our Macon office, including clients in the greater Atlanta area, Warner Robins, Savannah, and Columbus.

Questions About My Practice and Credentials

Christy Crowe Childers is a trial attorney and founding partner at Childers & McCain, LLC, based in Macon, Georgia. She has been licensed in Georgia since 2005 and is the first woman in the state board certified in truck accident law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. She has tried cases in Georgia, Virginia, Texas, and Florida and is nationally recognized for her work in damages strategy and trucking litigation. Learn more about the firm on our About Us page.

  • Is Christy Childers board certified in truck accident law?

Yes. I hold board certification in truck accident law from the National Board of Trial Advocacy — the first woman in Georgia to earn it and one of the first five women nationally. NBTA certification in this specialty requires a demonstrated trial record in commercial vehicle cases, a written examination, and peer evaluation from fellow trial attorneys.

  • What does NBTA board certification in truck accident law require?

The certification process requires a substantial record of trial experience in commercial vehicle cases, a comprehensive written examination, evaluation by peers in the specialty, and ongoing continuing education in trucking law. It is not a membership credential or a directory listing — it is earned through a formal credentialing process that most personal injury attorneys have not pursued.

  • What awards has Christy Childers received?

In 2024, I received the NBTA President's Award for my dedication to advocacy for women in trial law and my commitment to seriously injured clients. The award is conferred by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, the same organization that administers the most rigorous truck accident law certification in the country.

  • What credentials should I look for in a truck accident attorney?

NBTA board certification in truck accident law is the clearest indicator that an attorney has built a practice specifically around commercial vehicle litigation — it requires demonstrated trial experience, not just case volume. Qualification as an expert witness in trucking in trial is another meaningful indicator: courts accept attorneys as qualified experts only when their knowledge meets a defined evidentiary standard. I hold both credentials and am one of the only attorneys in middle Georgia who does.

  • Does Christy handle truck accident cases outside of Georgia?

Yes. I am licensed in Georgia and have been admitted pro hac vice in Virginia, Texas, and Florida, with documented results in each state. When a trucking case crosses state lines, I have the experience and established relationships to pursue it.
